Pete Coachman played for the Jaguar baseball team in 1984. Noted as one of the best single-season performers in Jaguar baseball history, he earned the following accolades after the 1984 season: Baseball America and ABCA Second Team All-American, ABCA All-Region Team, NCAA Regional All-Tournament Team, First Team All-Sun Belt Conference, and Sun Belt Conference Tournament MVP. During that storied 1984 season, he produced a four thirty batting average in 68 games played, scored 82 runs on 95 hits for 56 RBIs and totaled 13 doubles, three triples, and three home runs. He went 56 of 69 on stolen base attempts while drawing 64 walks. In the field, he produced a nine sixty-two percentage on 210 attempts while turning 12 double plays. He is second all-time in walks drawn in a season and third all-time in stolen bases in a single season. In 1984, he led South Alabama to a Sun Belt Conference Championship and made the NCAA South Regional while playing in 68 of 69 games. After his time as a Jaguar, he was drafted in the 1984 MLB Draft in the 11th round by the California Angels.
