MOBILE, Ala. - It was another big year for South Alabama Athletics in 2023-24. The Jaguars earned multiple big wins, championships, postseason appearances and awards.
Throughout the month of July, USAJaguars.com will recap some of the biggest storylines from the past year as we get ready for another big season of competition in 2024-25.
Next, we will look at the second Outdoor Sun Belt Conference title in the last three seasons for the South Alabama Men's Track and Field Team.
Men's Track and Field Cruises to Second Conference Title in last three seasons
The Jaguar Men dominated all three days of competition at the Sun Belt Outdoor Track and Field Championships, recording a monstrous team total of 143 points to claim the conference title at ULM's Brown Stadium.Â
Coming off an Olympic qualifying standard a week before, Francois Prinsloo added to a historic 2024 season by claiming the conference crown in the hammer throw with a season-best throw of 61.62 meters (202'2"). Samuel Mika would finish close behind Prinsloo with a fourth-place finish and a throw of 56.70 meters before inclement weather postponed Day one of the competition.Â
The Jags made their mark on Day two as Kyle Rademeyer claimed his fourth straight SunBelt pole vault championship, posting a new meet and facility record. Xavier Johnson also out-legged the field in the 10,000 meters to earn his first career title. South continued to pile up points as Reuben Booysen (javelin), Nic Glass (Decathlon), Sebastian Loschner (shot put), and Kendal White (400 meter-hurdles) all reeled in silver medals in their respective events to help give the Jags a commanding 45 point lead over former champion Arkansas State in second.Â
On day three, South Alabama kept its foot on the gas, with Prinsloo adding another Sun Belt title to his resume in the discus, securing a new meet and facility record. Keeping things rolling, Dorian Curry (High Jump) and Sacha Perrier (5,000 meters) all earned runner-up finishes to put the competition out of reach.Â
The Jaguars outscored Arkansas State in second place by over 25 points, and Prinsloo closed the Championships, earning the Men's Top Point Scorer Title in the meet with 13 total points.Â
" I'm so proud of how our entire team competed this weekend," said Head Coach Paul Brueske. " They've put in so much work throughout the season, and that showed throughout the week in a big way. They deserve it. It's a long, grueling season, and I'm so happy to see them succeed."Â
