Booysen Heads to Eugene for NCAA Championships

EUGENE, Ore. – Reuben Booysen is set to compete for a national title in the men's javelin on Wednesday, June 10, at the 2026 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships at historic Hayward Field in TrackTown USA. The javelin is scheduled to begin at 8:15 p.m. CT.

HOW TO FOLLOW

The NCAA Championships will be broadcast on ESPN and ESPN2 throughout all four days of competition from June 10-13, with coverage beginning at 7 p.m. CT each evening.

FAST FACTS

  • Booysen will compete against the top 24 javelin throwers in the nation for a chance to capture an NCAA title.

  • He is scheduled to be the final thrower in the opening round of competition in the second flight.

  • Following the opening three throws, the top nine competitors will advance to the finals. The athlete with the longest throw at the conclusion of competition will be crowned NCAA Champion.

  • Booysen secured his spot in Eugene with a throw of 69.22 meters (227-1) at the NCAA East First Round in Lexington, Ky., finishing sixth overall and earning one of 12 qualifying positions from the regional meet.

  • The South African native enters the championship ranked 17th nationally after recording a season-best throw of 71.48 meters (234-6) at the Sun Belt Conference Championships.

  • Booysen is South Alabama's first NCAA Outdoor Championships qualifier since 2024 and the program's first men's javelin qualifier since 2014.

  • The last time the Jaguars competed at the NCAA Outdoor Championships, three athletes earned All-America honors: Dorian Curry (high jump), Kyle Rademeyer (pole vault), and Francois Prinsloo (discus). Prinsloo captured the fourth NCAA title in program history with his national championship performance in the discus.
