LAFAYETTE, La. - Sun Belt Conference baseball opens when South Alabama (12-5) takes a trip to Lafayette to take on Louisiana (13-4) in a weekend set.

Friday night's first pitch in the series opener is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. Saturday's game is set for 2:00 p.m., while the series finale is slated for 1:00 p.m.


SERIES HISTORY
The Jaguars and the Cajuns share a long and decorated history, with Louisiana ranking as the Jaguars' third-most common opponent all time. The two programs have met 131 times since their first matchup in 1975, with the Jaguars holding a 72-59 advantage in the all-time series. This weekend's series in Lafayette will mark the 54th through 56th meetings between the teams at M.L. Tigue Moore Field, where the Cajuns hold a 30-23 edge in games played in Lafayette. When the series shifts to Stanky Field, however, the Jaguars have enjoyed greater success, leading 48-25. The teams have also met five times at neutral sites across five different cities - Baton Rouge, Bowling Green, Monroe, Montgomery, and Troy, where the Cajuns hold a 4-1 advantage in those matchups. Most recently, the Jaguars' last series victory over the Cajuns came in April 2021, when South Alabama completed a weekend sweep.


SCOUTING THE CAJUNS
Louisiana (13-4) enters SBC play vs. the Jaguars with three series victories in their first four of non-conference play, highlighted by a sweep over Maryland, and took two of three from UC San Diego and Dallas Baptist. Impressive midweek victories over No. 2 LSU and a midweek sweep over Big 12 Conference member Kansas State showcase the Cajuns talent in 2026. The Cajuns have gotten it done on the mound and on the base paths heading into SBC play, where they rank third in team ERA (4.56) in the SBC, second in shutouts (2), and second in stolen bases (35).

• Situational and timely hitting has been effective in the early going, where we've seen eight sacrifice flies and 13 sacrifice bunts as a team. Brennon Wright leads the Sun Belt in hits (29), batting average (.483), and on-base percentage (.603), and Blake Guerin leads the way for the Jags in the RBI (19) and long ball (5) categories.
• The Jags' completed the sweep of Southeastern Louisiana when it secured a 10-3 win at Stanky on March 11, after taking a 9-7 victory from the Lions in Hammond, on Feb 24.
• The offense has seen huge production with two-away since the start of the season. Through 17 games in two-out situations, the team is hitting .307 with 52 RBI, making 44% of the total team RBI with two outs.
