  • South Alabama men's basketball will take the floor at the Mitchell Center for the first time this season Thursday, hosting Mississippi Christian in an exhibition at 6 p.m. CT.
  • The matchup gives fans their first look at the Jaguars before South Alabama opens the regular season against Ohio on Nov. 2 in the MAC-SBC Challenge.
  • South Alabama's 14-player roster features 10 newcomers alongside returners Samuel Shoptaw, Desmond Williams, Stephen Williams and Peyton Law. Shoptaw and Desmond Williams return to action after redshirting last season.
  • Head coach Richie Riley enters his ninth season leading the Jaguars with a 187-134 record, ranking third in program history in victories behind Ronnie Arrow and Cliff Ellis.
  • Riley has guided South Alabama to a .500 record or better in each of his first eight seasons, including back-to-back 20-win campaigns. The Jaguars are coming off their first NIT appearance since 2007, following a Sun Belt regular-season championship in 2024-25.
  • Law returns after averaging 12.8 points and 6.0 rebounds in 10 appearances before a season-ending injury last year. He shot 63.8 percent from the field and scored a season-high 29 points on 13-of-15 shooting against Alcorn.
  • Stephen Williams appeared in all 33 games last season, averaging 4.7 rebounds and leading the Jaguars in field-goal percentage at 63.5 percent. He closed the season with 14 points and nine rebounds in South Alabama's NIT matchup at Auburn.
  • Jalen Langsy joins the Jaguars after earning first-team NAIA All-America honors at Northwestern College. The junior guard averaged 27.3 points per game last season, made a school-record 152 three-pointers and shot 51.0 percent from beyond the arc.
  • Aaron Goldstein arrives after leading the East Coast Conference in scoring at 21.2 points per game at the College of Staten Island. He earned first-team All-ECC and first-team D2CCA All-East Region honors.
