MOBILE, Ala. – South Alabama women's basketball (9-8, 2-5) is set to take on Georgia State (8-11, 3-4) on Thursday at 7 p.m. at the Mitchell Center in Mobile, Ala. The Jaguars seek their third Sun Belt victory of the season.
SERIES HISTORY:
The Jaguars are 12-15 against the Panthers, their last matchup a two-overtime thriller that the Jaguars ultimately lost, 78-69. The contest took place on Feb. 13, 2025, in Atlanta, Ga.
SCOUTING THE JAGS:
- The Jaguars host the Panthers after a 63-59 deficit to Coastal Carolina on Saturday, Jan. 17. Cordasia Harris recorded 15 rebounds, a single-game high since the 2020-21 season.
- Cordasia Harris continues to perform impressively for the Jaguars, ranking in the national top 10 in offensive rebounds per game (4.4) and double-doubles (10). Harris is also the only Jaguar currently averaging a double-double for the season (13.47 PPG and 10.06 PPG).
- South Alabama continues to dominate from beyond the arc, ranking second in the Sun Belt in three-point percentage (35.5) and three-point percentage defense (27.2).
- Tamara Ortiz is on a hot streak, recording season-highs in back-to-back games. The redshirt-sophomore from Columbus, Ohio, recorded 13 points against ULM (1/10) and 14 points against Coastal Carolina (1/17).
- A Jaguar victory would be the program's third league win of the season and first over the Panthers in five years (1/29/21).
SCOUTING THE PANTHERS:
- Georgia State travels to Mobile after a 79-57 victory over App State on Saturday (1/17). Four Panthers scored in double-figures, and Crystal Henderson recorded a 27-piece.
- Crystal Henderson has made an impact with this year's Panther squad, averaging 15.95 points per game and totaling 77 assists and 44 steals, leading the team in each category. Henderson ranks second in the league in field goal attempts (276).
- The Panthers are successful from the charity stripe, leading the Sun Belt in free-throw attempts per game (21.95) and ranking second in free throws made per game (14.95).
- Georgia State's backcourt has proven itself this season, ranking 22nd in the nation in steals per game (12.1) and 24th in turnover margin (6.16).
