South Alabama Falls to Georgia State in Overtime

MOBILE, Ala. – South Alabama women's basketball fell to Georgia State in overtime on Thursday at the Mitchell Center, 78-75. The meeting was the third of the last five to end in overtime.

KEY MOMENTS:
  • Amyah Sutton opened the game with two three-balls, sending the Jaguars to an early 10-2 lead. Sutton and Tamara Ortiz would each shoot 2-for-3 from downtown, giving the Jags a 25-7 lead at the end of the quarter.
  • The Panthers had a hot second half, scoring 18 points and limiting the Jaguars to an 18.2 field-goal percentage. Despite being outscored by 10, the Jaguars would lead the Panthers 33-25 at the half.
  • Offensive struggles stalled the Jaguars in the fourth quarter, as they recorded five turnovers in a span of four minutes. During that period, the Panthers went on a 10-2 run and held the Jaguars to a scoring drought, putting them within three.
  • The Panthers continued to build momentum, upping their score to 69-67 in favor of the Jaguars with 41 seconds on the clock. Morgan Robinson-Nwagwu would then draw a shooting foul off Tamara Ortiz, but would go 1-for-2 from the charity stripe, keeping the Panthers down one.
  • With two seconds on the clock, Georgia State's Crystal Henderson drained a layup, evening the score at 70. Henderson's layup sent the tilt into overtime.
  • Henderson continued her momentum, draining a three-ball. The Jaguars were outscored 8-5, eight of the 13 points coming from the charity stripe. The Panthers would take the victory, 78-75.
