CONWAY, S.C. – South Alabama women's basketball fell to Coastal Carolina on Saturday, 63-59. The Jaguars are now 9-8 for the season and 2-5 in Sun Belt play.
KEY MOMENTS:
- Both defenses started strong in the first quarter, neither team scoring a field goal until the fourth minute of play. The Jaguars and Chanticleers would finish the quarter with a combined seven field goals, the Jaguars down 15-10.
- Offensive struggles stalled South Alabama in the second quarter, the Jaguars facing a four-minute scoring drought. However, a seven-point quarter from Tamara Ortiz gave a jolt to the Jaguars, ending the quarter with 12 points in the half.
- The Jaguars' frontcourt had a hot start to the second half, going on an 8-2 run. Chrysta Narcisse led the streak, scoring eight points in three minutes.
- Amyah Sutton went on a run late in the third quarter, draining back-to-back three-balls. The run would give the Jaguars a four-point lead, the largest of the game.
- South Alabama had an explosive comeback in the third quarter, leading the Chanticleers 50-48 at the finish. The Jaguars scored 29 points in the quarter, more than the first two combined.
- The Chanticleers outscored the Jaguars 15-9 in the fourth quarter, giving them the lead with four minutes to go. Despite two comeback efforts to tie the game, the Jaguars would fall to Coastal Carolina, 63-59.
KEY STATS:
- Tamara Ortiz recorded 14 points against the Chanticleers, a season-high. Ortiz has now recorded season-highs in scoring in back-to-back games.
- The Jaguars' 29 points in the third quarter were their most in a quarter since Louisiana Tech (12/4/25).
- Cordasia Harris recorded 15 rebounds and 10 points, marking her 10th double-double of the season. This is the second consecutive game that Harris has recorded 15 rebounds, the most in six years.
