Peyton Law Signs with South Alabama men's basketball

MOBILE, Ala. – Peyton Law has signed with the South Alabama men's basketball team, head coach Richie Riley announced Thursday evening.

Law, a 6-7 forward from Calhoun, Ga., joins the Jaguars after spending the past three seasons at NAIA powerhouse Freed-Hardeman University in Henderson, Tenn. He had a stellar 2024-25 campaign for the Lions, receiving NAIA First-Team All-American honors after averaging 16.2 points, 6.7 rebounds, 1.7 assists, 1.7 steals, and 1.4 blocks per game while shooting 60.7 percent from the field, and 39.4 percent from three-point range. A dominant force on both ends of the court, Law tallied seven double-doubles, 30 games with double figures, 13 games with 20 points or more, and 51 blocks to help lead Freed Hardeman to its second straight season with 30 wins or more and a run to the "Fab Four" of the NAIA National Tournament. Law ranked in the Top Five in the Mid-South Conference in points, steals, blocks, and field goal percentage and was named Conference Player of the Week five times throughout the season.

"Peyton is an absolute warrior and an everyday dude, " Riley said. "His skill and versatility on the offensive end fits our style of play. Defensively, he has instincts you can't teach and he rebounds at a high level. I'm so excited about the major impact he's going to have on our program."

A former teammate of current Jaguar JJ Wheat,  Law was a catalyst on the 2023-24 Freed Hardeman squad that posted a 36-4 record and claimed the NAIA National Championship. During that season, Law averaged 7.9 points, 4.1 rebounds, 1.6 steals, and 1.4 assists per contest with a 50.7 percent field goal percentage, putting up double figures in 17 contests.

As a freshman, he contributed immensely to the Lions, making 23 starts across 34 games while totaling 310 points, 164 rebounds, and 32 blocks, assisting Freed Hardeman to an appearance in the Round of 16 of the NAIA National Tournament.

In total, Law has tallied 90 starts, 1172 points, 548 rebounds, 151 assists, 144 steals, and 104 blocks, shooting 55.7 percent from the field and 34.6 percent from behind the arc throughout his career.

Law is the third transfer addition for the Jaguars this week and the second NAIA All-American to sign with South Alabama in the 2025 recruiting cycle. He joins fellow NAIA transfer Chaze Harris, Brian Hawthorne, Desmond Williams, and Samuel Shoptaw as newcomers for the Jags in the 2025-26 season.
