NEW ORLEANS – The Sun Belt Conference named South Alabama Soccer's
Sierra Giorgio Goalkeeper of the Year on Sunday morning. In addition to Giorgio, four other Jags were named to all-conference teams.
Giorgio has consistently performed at a high level for the Jags, recording eight clean sheets and 44 saves across 14 appearances between the pipes. She currently ranks 17th nationally in goals-against average (.611) and leads the conference in save percentage (.846) and shutouts (8). Giorgio was also named to All-Sun Belt Conference First Team.
In addition to Giorgio,
Andrea Iljkic was also named to First-Team All-Conference. Iljkic totaled five goals and two assists this season, highlighted by a brace against Coastal Carolina (9/18).
Redshirt freshman
Zamiyah Hill was named to Second-Team All-Conference. Hill leads South in goals (6), points (13), shots (47) and shots on goal (17) and played a vital role in an offense that, at one point this season, ranked 12th nationally in scoring offense.
Amelia Campanella and
Melina Descary were both named to Third-Team All-Conference, leading a Jaguar backline that ranks 11th in the nation in shutout percentage (.625) and has recorded 10 shutouts, five of them being consecutive. This season, Campanella has played a full 90 in all but one match, and Descary has recorded one goal and one assist.
With Giorgio's award, South has had a player win a major Sun Belt award in 12 of the last 13 seasons, including sweeping the awards in 2014 and 2019.
The Jags will play Louisiana in the first round of the Sun Belt Conference Championship at 4:30 p.m. on Monday at Foley Sports Tourism Complex in Foley, Ala.
