Palmeros Named SBC Women’s Golfer of the Week

NEW ORLEANS | After picking up her first career win, South Alabama women's golfer Daniela Palmeros was named the Sun Belt Conference Women's Golfer of the Week on Friday as announced by the league office.

The honor marks the fifth time a golfer has earned the league's weekly honor under head coach Marcelo Huarte, joining Katharina Schroll (twice) and Mercedes Aldana, who received the accolade last season, and Anna Behnsen, who received the honor in September. Behnsen is the ninth women's golfer in program history to earn the conference's weekly honor and the 14th overall selection. Three other players have also been named the SBC Golfer of the Month.

Palmeros captured her first career medalist honors at the Fifth Annual Evie Odom Invitational hosted by Old Dominion at the Princess Anne Country Club last weekend. Palermos finished four-under par for the tournament to win by three strokes, becoming the second Jaguar to record a tournament victory this fall (Anna Behnsen – Inverness Intercollegiate).

The three-round, 206 by Palmeros marked not only a new career low for the freshman, but was the second-lowest, 54-hole score in program history, just two strokes behind Julie Hovland's program mark where she fired a three-round 204 at the USA Intercollegiate (9/5-7/20). Palmeros recorded five birdies in the final round to post a three-under 67 – a new career low – as she was one of two players to do so on Saturday.

The final-round 67 by Palmeros was just one stroke shy of matching the program's individual low round score, and was the tied for sixth-lowest round. Palmeros fired a two-under, then career-low 68 in the second round, which was the tied for the lowest score of the round, and the 68 marked the third sub-70 round this season by a Jag, which tied for the 10th-lowest round in program history.

Palmeros tied for the lowest score on par threes with two other players as she averaged 2.89 strokes, and her 3.92 strokes average on par fours was tied for second-best at the event. Her 11 birdies at the tournament were also tied with Maryland's Celeste Mangeat for most amongst the 72-player field.

Palmeros currently ranks second on the club with a 74.42 strokes per round average and has 22 birdies this fall.

South Alabama will open up its spring campaign on Jan. 25, 2026 when it competes at the PDI Intercollegiate hosted by UCF at the Eagle Creek Golf Club in Orlando, Fla.
