Sierra Giorgio of South Alabama Soccer was named the Sun Belt Defensive Player of the Week on Tuesday.
Against James Madison on Friday, Giorgio recorded five saves, shutting out the Sun Belt's leader in total goals, points and game-winning goals. Notably, she saved a shot from a high-risk one-on-one match in the 81st minute.
Giorgio has been a huge success in the Sun Belt this season, leading the league in goals against average (.721) and total shutouts (6). She has also played a crucial role in leading the Jags' back line to rank 21st in the nation in shutout percentage (.571) and leading the conference in goal differential (19) and goals-against average (.786).
The senior from Vaughan, Ontario, has recorded 37 saves and six shutouts for the Jags this season.
