Loschner Wins Shot Put Title, Jags Finish Second at Sun Belt Championships


BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The South Alabama Track and Field program closed competition in the Sun Belt Indoor Championships Tuesday afternoon at the Birmingham Crossplex. Sebastian Loschner claimed the shot put title and the Jaguars men's team took second place. 

South Alabama's men's team finished in second place with 122 points, while the women's team took 12th place with 25 points. In total, South Alabama earned two first-place finishes in the meet and had eight athletes on the podium. 

Arkansas State made history by sweeping the Sun Belt Indoor Conference Championships for the year in a row. The women's team earning 86.5 points, and the men's team recording 144.5 points. 

In the Field 

Loschner broke his own indoor school record for the fourth time this year, hurling a throw of 18.10 meters (59' 4 ¾") to bring home the conference title. Francois Prinsloo and Samuel Mika rounded out the Top five in the shot put. Prinsloo took fourth place with a throw of 16.49 meters (54' 1 ¼") and Mika secured fifth place with a toss of 16.39 meters (53' 9 ¼"). 

After a dominant day one in the heptathlon Sebastian Reyneke closed out strong, smashing his own indoor school record with 5,699 points to secure second place. On day two Reyneke dominated the pole vault with a clearance of 4.72 meters (15'5 ¾") to take first place and set a new personal best in the 60-meter hurdles, clocking a time of 8.57 to earn third. Brylan Shirley clawed into the top five, securing fifth place with 4,490 points. 

Dorian Curry earned the silver medal in the high jump for the second year in a row, leaping to a mark of 2.12 meters (6' 11 ½"). 

The Jags had two athletes finish inside the top 10 in the triple jump. Caleb Mabins posted a mark of 14.52 meters (47' 7 ¾") to take fourth place in the competition, while Devin Dahunsi placed ninth with a jump of 13.88 meters (45' 6 ½"). 

In the women's pole vault, Alexis Gratia cleared 3.98 meters (13' ¾") to climb onto the podium and take third place in the competition. Ina Edstrom also turned in an impressive outing in the pole vault, clearing 3.78 meters (12'4 ¾") to secure seventh place.

Bodine Degli-Umberti continued to stack top finishes, launching a throw of 15.29 meters (50'2") to finish in fifth place in the competition. 

Iyana Johnson logged a mammoth jump of 12.34 meters (40'6") to take sixth place. 

On the Track

Sacha Perrier added to his stellar weekend with a blazing finish in the 3,000 meters. Perrier cruised to third place to secure the bronze medal with a time of 8:19.29. Teagan Flanagan and Xavier Johnson picked up two more top-10 finishes for the Jaguars. Flanagan blistered to a time of 8:24.81 to take fifth place, while Johnson secured seventh place with a time of 8:28.23. 

After tying a school record in her last outing, Tia Acker blazed to fifth place in the women's 200 meters with a time of 24.40 to move her into sixth place all-time in the Jaguar record books. 

Kendal White dashed to a time of 8.14 to take sixth place in the 60-meter hurdles. 

Freshman Jordan Morrison ran a composed 800-meter race, finishing in 1:54.98 to take sixth place in the competition. 

South Alabama logged two eighth-place finishes in the 200 meters and 400 meters. Joshua Norris finished 22.55 in the 200 meters, while Javon Glenn clocked 54.13 in the 400 meters.
