After trailing by 16 points at the half, the Jags came storming back to pull within one possession with four minutes remaining, but Western Illinois was able to hold on in the final seconds as the Jags fell 64-63 Tuesday night in the second game of the Jaguar Classic. Despite the loss, South Alabama had four players finish with double figures in scoring, and two players recorded a double-double. Myles Corey powered the Jags offensively, finishing with 17 points and two assists. Randy Brady was a powerful presence in the paint, securing a double-double with 13 points, 11 rebounds, and four assists. Hometown kid Barry Dunning Jr. kept the Jags in the game throughout the second half, scoring 13 points, grabbing ten rebounds, and swiping three steals. JJ Wheat played elite defensively in the final five minutes, scoring 13 points with two rebounds.

The Jaguars have prided themselves on their defensive effort this season. USA currently holds its opponents to 65.1 points per contest, which ranks first in the Sun Belt conference and 62nd in the country.

Judah Brown has been a dominant scorer for the Jags this season. Against Mercer, Brown put up 15 points on 6-of-8 shooting, marking the fourth time he has scored 15 points or more this year. He also ranks fifth in the Sun Belt in total three-pointers with 22.

USA closed the 2024 Jaguar Classic presented by Circle K with a 1-1 record, picking up an 84-63 win over Incarnate Word before losing to Western Illinois 64-63 on Tuesday night.
