South Alabama Men's Basketball set to Host Jaguar Classic

MOBILE, Ala. – The South Alabama Men's Basketball team will continue its home stand this week. On Monday, Nov. 25, they will take on Incarnate Word, and on Tuesday, Nov.26, they will host Western Illinois in the Jaguar Classic presented by Circle K.

Last Time Out

Eight of the active nine players scored points as the Jags cruised past Spring Hill 91-65 Monday night in the Mitchell Center. Dylan Fasoyiro led the way, scoring a season-high 19 points on 4-of-6 shooting from three-point range, while John Broom nearly secured a double-double, finishing with a career-high 14 points and nine rebounds. 


South Alabama Notes

  • Myles Corey has been a force for the Jaguars this season. Corey leads the Sun Belt in points (18.6) and minutes (34.6) per game, while ranking second in assists per contest (5.8). 
  • John Broom ranks fifth in the Sun Belt in rebounds per game, grabbing 8.2 boards per contest. 
  • Judah Brown sits at the top of the SBC in total three-pointers (19), knocking down 3.8 per game. 
  • The Jags have yet to record a negative assist-to-turnover ratio this year, owning a conference-leading 1.53 ratio through five games. South Alabama posted 23 assists and only eight turnovers in its last game against Spring Hill. 
  • South Alabama has played lockdown defense through five games, holding its opponent to 38.4 percent from the field, and 65.8 points scored per game. 
  • South set new season-highs in several statistical categories against Spring Hill: field goal percentage (51.6), 13 3FGM, 3FG% (43.3), and 18 steals (3rd most in program history). 
  • Four out of five games this season have been decided by 10 points or less. 
  • Head Coach Richie Riley has 148 career wins in his head coaching career.
  • Cantia Rahming and JJ Wheat had solid outings versus Spring Hill. Rahming finished with nine points and corralled three rebounds in 11 minutes, and Wheat scored eight points and dished out eight assists in 24 minutes. 

Series History

  • USA has a long history of competing in mid-season tournaments. The Jags own a 12-4 record and have competed in an MTE in the last 17 seasons
  • Head Coach Richie Riley will be hosting his third tournament in the Mitchell Center in the past five years. He holds a 4-2 record in those home meetings. 
  • The Jags have never met the Cardinals or Leathernecks in the history of the program. 
  • South Alabama owns an 81-45 record over teams in the Southland conference.
  • The Jags hold a 39-26 record against teams in the Ohio Valley Conference.  

About Incarnate Word 

  • Incarnate Word owns a 3-2 record highlighted by wins over Arkansas Pine-Bluff and Prairie View A&M while suffering losses to California Baptist and Northern Arizona. 
  • UIW has four players averaging more than 13 points per contest: Davion Bailey (17.2), Dylan Hayman (15.4), Jordan Pyke (15.4), and Jalin Anderon (13.8). 
  • The Cardinals average the second most points per game in the Southland Conference, contributing 85.0 per contest. 
  • Incarnate Word was picked to finish seventh in the Southland Preseason Coaches poll and Jalin Anderson received second-team Preseason All-Southland honors. 

About Western Illinois

  • Western Illinois is 3-3 on the season with wins over San Jose State, Central Arkansas, and Monmouth College. 
  • The Leathernecks have been a solid defensive team. They lead the Ohio Valley Conference in scoring defense, averaging 68.0 points per game. 
  • Ryan Myers has been the Leathernecks hot hand, averaging 15.8 points, 3.2 rebounds, and 1.3 assists per game. 
  • Western Illinois was picked to finish second in the Ohio Valley Conference preseason Coaches poll.
