MOBILE, Ala. – South Alabama kicks off the 2023 season with a preseason scrimmage against Samford Monday, Aug. 7, which is one of two exhibitions on the Jaguars' schedule. The Jags and the Bulldogs will kick off Monday night at The Cage at 6 p.m.

South Alabama Notes
- South Alabama is coming off an 11-2-7 record from the 2022 season, going 6-1-3 in Sun Belt action.
- South posted a 5-0 record in the spring 2023 season and allowed zero goals.
- The Jags return 14 from last year's roster, including leading scorer and SBC Player of the Year, Newcomer of the Year and Offensive Player of the Year Jasmine Greene and First-team All-Sun Belt defender Abby Jacobs.
- The Jags also return starting goalkeeper Jaidy Gutierrez Campos, who posted a .59 GAA and had 12 clean sheets, both setting program records.
- Twelve newcomers join the program this season, which includes six transfers and six freshmen.
- South is 4-4-2 in preseason scrimmages under head coach Richard Moodie.
Samford Notes
- The Bulldogs posted an 11-4-7 record last season, going 5-1-3 in SOCON play.
- Samford earned their fifth Southern Conference Tournament title last season, beating UNC Greensboro in PKs in the title match.
- The Bulldogs earned their seventh NCAA Tournament bid last season but fell to Georgia 2-0 in the first round.
- Samford's leading scorer from 2022 Whitaker Buchanan returns to the squad, who scored five goals and added three assists last season.
- Goalkeeper Emma Dooley also returns to the Bulldogs roster, after posting six shutouts and seven wins a season ago.
Series History
- South is 1-1-2 all-time against Samford, with the last meeting between the teams being a 0-0 tie in 2016.
