MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. | South Alabama finished third on the women's side and fourth on the men's side at the 2023 Sun Belt Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships that concluded Saturday evening.
On the women's side, South Alabama finished with 97 total points finishing behind Texas State (107) and eventual champion Arkansas State (144). On the men's side, the Jags finished fourth with 110.5 points finishing just behind Louisiana (134). They also finished behind Texas State (144) and eventual champion Arkansas State (168.5).
Four student-athletes reached the top of the medal stand with a gold medal on Saturday, while three others and a relay team each reached the medal stand on the final day of competition.
Kirami Yego won the 5000 meters setting a new meet record in a time of 13:59.07 while
Bodine Degli-Umberti won the discus title with a throw of 53.04 meters (174-00) on her last throw of the competition.
Kiara Risher claimed the high jump on her last jump with height of 1.79 meters (5-10.50), while
Francois Prinsloo claimed the men's discus title with a throw of 61.20 meters (200-09.00).
Dorian Curry reached the medal stand in the high jump with a second-place finish with a height of 2.14m (7.00-25), while
Teagan Flanagan finished third in the 5000 meters with a time of 14:24.00.
Lauren Tinkler finished third in the women's 5000 meters with a time of 16:27.41 to reach the stand for the second time this week, while the men's 4x400-meter relay team finished third with a season-best time of 3:10.85.
Several other individuals and relay teams scored points for South Alabama including the men's 4x100-meter relay team with a seventh-place finish in a time of 41.81 seconds.
Kendal White scored points in a pair of events including finishing fourth in the 400-meter hurdles with a personal-best time of 51.76 seconds and eighth in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 14.62 seconds.
Jalen Boyd (sixth / 47.92) and
Xavier Rogers (seventh / 48.83) each scored in the 400-meters, while
Tashod Wingfield finished seventh in the triple jump with a distance of 14.59 meters (47-10.50).
Sebastian Loschner finished fifth in the discus with a throw of 52.00 meters (170.07-00), while
Sebastian Reyneke finished eighth in the high jump with a height of 2.00 meters (6-06.75
).
On the women's side,
Adele Magaud finished eighth in the 1500 meters with a time of 4:35.89, while
Grace Wolf (fourth / 59.47),
Josie Pry (seventh / 1:02.48), and
Rachel Hunter (eighth / 1:03.30) each scored points in the 400-meter hurdles with Wolf and Fry each recording personal bests.
Kamdyn Skinner finished fourth in the high jump with a height of 1.70 meters (5-07.00) for a new personal best, while
Iyana Johnson finished sixth in the triple jump with a distance of 12.43 meters (40-09.50).
