MOBILE, Ala. – Following three straight wins to close out non-conference play, the South Alabama men's basketball team (7-5) will open up its Sun Belt Conference slate on the road against Old Dominion on Saturday, Dec.30 at 6 p.m. CST.

In the third game in a row, the Jags used a balanced scoring attack to defeat Alabama A&M 83-67. The Jaguars had five players finish with double digits in scoring, with Tyrell Jones leading the way with 18 points. After a deadlocked first half, South jumped out on an 18-7 second-half run to take a commanding lead and never looked back.

This will be the 24th matchup between South Alabama and Old Dominion. ODU leads the all-time series with a 13-10 record.

About Old Dominion (4-8)

• ODU is in 11th place in the Sun Belt Conference. They are coming off a 1-2 record in Diamond Head Classic, picking up a 78-63 win over Temple, before falling to TCU and Umass. 
• Jeff Jones enters his 11th season at the helm for the Monarchs with a 204-133 record.
• Vasean Allette, Chaunce Jenkins, and Tyrone Williams have been dominant forces this season for ODU. Allette leads ODU, averaging 15.9 points, 5.3 boards, and 2.3 assists. Jenkins averages 15.7 points, 3.8 rebounds, and a team-leading 2.7 assists. Williams contributes 12.9 points and a squad-leading 6.3 rebounds per contest. 
• Jenkins was named to the Preseason First Team All-Sun Belt Team. 
• The Monarchs have faced two ranked opponents this season, No. 14 Arkansas and No.21 James Madison.

• The Jags have secured three dominant victories in a row over (Alabama A&M 83-67), (Spring Hill 91-74), and (Mercer 83-62). 
• South Alabama has three players averaging double figures in scoring. Isiah Gaiter paces the way, averaging 15.4 points, Marcus Millender scores 10.3 points, and Maxwell Land totals 10.1 points per contest. 
• Throughout his six seasons at the helm, Richie Riley has a 49-40 record in Sun Belt Conference play. 
• The Jaguars are 5-2 at home and 2-3 on the road this season. 
• Isiah Gaiter continues to command the Jaguars scoring attack. Gaiter has scored double figures in 10 out of 12 games this year and has recorded three 20-point games this season. Gaiter also ranks first in the Sun Belt Conference in Minutes per game (34.3), fourth in free throw percentage (82.4), and sixth in field goal percentage (49.3). 
• Samuel Tabe has been electric in the last four games. In that stretch, he has averaged 14.25 points and six rebounds per contest.  
• South Alabama ranks third in the Sun Belt in turnover margin (1.92). The Jags have logged ten or fewer turnovers in their last four games. 
• The Jags are second in the conference in free throw percentage, shooting 73.7 percent from the charity stripe. 
• In their last matchup against Alabama A&M, five Jags contributed double figures in scoring. Tyrell Jones scored 18 points, Tabe totaled 13 points and 10 rebounds, Gaiter scored 13 points, Millender added 13 points, and Eljiah Ormiston earned 10 points. 
• Against Spring Hill, South Alabama had six players finish with double-digits in scoring for the first time since December 2020 against Flager. 
• Head Coach Richie Riley became the third head coach in program history to win 100 games at South Alabama in the win over Spring Hill. 
• South has recorded three double-doubles this season. Marcus Millender totaled 23 points and 10 assists against Nicholls, Thomas logged 14 points and 11 rebounds against Denver, and Samuel Tabe secured 13 points and 10 rebounds against A&M.
