Jaguar track & field to compete in Samford University Multi and Invitational

MOBILE, Ala. – The South Alabama men's and women's indoor track and field teams once again travel to Birmingham, this time to participate in the Samford Multis and Invitational, Thursday and Friday in Birmingham at the Birmingham CrossPlex.
 
The Jaguars will compete against teams from Alabama State, Cumberland (Tenn.), Kennesaw State, McNeese State, Montevallo, Nicholls State, Samford, Tulane and UAB.
 
The Multis will begin on Thursday, as the men will compete in the heptathlon and the women in the pentathlon. The Samford University Invitational will begin on Friday. The field events will begin with the women's weight throw at 10 a.m., and the track events start at 11 a.m. with the women's 5,000 meters. The events will conclude with the men's 4x400-meter relay at 5:25 p.m.

NOTES
  • The Jaguars secured 25 top-five finishes at the UAB Invitational last week.
  • In the meet last week, Colette Uys tied the second-longest women's indoor shot-put throw in school history.
  • She also had the fifth-longest weight throw in Jaguar history.
  • Current Jags Graham Collins (first) and Sebastian Reyneke (second and third) hold the three-highest indoor heptathlon scores in school history.
  • In 2020, Hanna-Mai Vaikla recorded the third-highest indoor pentathlon score in Jaguar history.
  • Eight current athletes hold the school record for their event – Kirami Yego (5,000m), Dorian Curry (high jump), Kyle Rademeyer (pole vault), Francois Prinsloo (weight throw), Collins (heptathlon), Rachel Hunter/Shay Lee/Abbey Weitenbeck (distance medley).
