MOBILE, Ala. – South Alabama kicks off the 2022 campaign with a pair of exhibition matches this week beginning with a trip to Jackson (Miss.) to face Jackson State on Wednesday afternoon.
 
The match is scheduled to begin at 3 pm.
 
South Alabama, the three-time defending Sun Belt Conference champion, and Jackson State have met three times in school history with the Jaguars holding a 2-1 advantage in the series including winning the last two matches. The last time the two met was August 25, 2019, when South Alabama defeated Jackson State 9-0 in Troy. The only time the two teams have met in Jackson was on August 20, 2010, when Jackson State won their only match of the series, 1-0.
 
South Alabama (12-5-3 last season) was picked to the win the West Division of the Sun Belt Conference earlier this week with three players earning All-Conference honors. Gracie Wilson was picked as the Preseason Sun Belt Conference Offensive Player of the Year after earning the honor in 2021. Gabrielle Gayle was named as the Preseason Sun Belt Conference Preseason Defensive Player of the Year after helping to secure eight shutouts last season, while Morgan Cross was named Preseason All-Sun Belt after scoring six goals and adding six assists last season.
