South Men’s Basketball’s Chandler signs pro contract

MOBILE, Ala. – Former South Alabama men's basketball standout JayJay Chandler became the second member from the 2021-22 squad this month to ink a professional deal as he signed with BBC Monthey-Chablais in Switzerland of the Swiss Ligue Nationale de Basketball.

In his final season with the program, Chandler earned second-team postseason honors from both the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) and the Sun Belt Conference. The Katy, Texas, native finished the regular season eighth in the Sun Belt in scoring, averaging 15.2 points per game and was named Sun Belt Player of the Week in two games against Troy. 

Chandler – who transferred from Texas A&M – finished with over 1,000 points in his NCAA career, eclipsing the milestone in a home victory over Troy. The 6-foot-4 guard scored a career-high 26 points at Troy, dished out a career-best eight assists at Coastal Carolina and scored at least 10 points in 24 consecutive contests during season, while also recording 20 or more points in 10 contests.

ABOUT BBC MONTHEY-CHABLAIS
BBC Monthey-Chablais is a professional basketball team based in Monthey, Switzerland. The team currently plays in the Swiss Ligue Nationale de Basketball. The club has won the Swiss championships three times (1996, 2005 and 2017). In July 2018, the club changed its name from BBC Monthey to BBC Monthey-Chablais.

The Swiss Basketball League, also known as SB League or SBL, is the top-tier professional club basketball league in Switzerland and is organized by Swiss Basketball. The winners of the SBL are crowned Swiss national basketball champions. Currently, twelve teams compete in the league.
