MOBILE, Ala. | The South Alabama men's basketball team goes on the road for the first time this season to take on New Mexico Friday evening at 8:00 p.m. (CST). Each of the teams are 1-0, having won their respective home openers to begin the season.

PREVIOUS GAME
South Alabama defeated Mobile in their home opener, 97-59. New Mexico beat Southern Utah on Monday night to open their season, 89-81.
 
THE SERIES
This is the first ever matchup between South Alabama and New Mexico.
 
NOTES

• New Mexico's head coach, Richard Pitino, has a record of 0-2 against South Alabama in his career from his time as FIU's head coach.
• Jamar Franklin led the Jags against Mobile with 18 points. He was joined in double-figures by four other Jaguars, including a double-double from Kevin Samuel (16 points, 12 rebounds).
• South was picked to finish third in the Sun Belt preseason poll. The Jags finished fifth in the conference last year with a 9-7 record. 
• South Alabama was the only Sun Belt team to finish last season in the top three in both scoring offense (71.5) and scoring defense (63.8).
• The Jaguars placed two players on the Preseason All-Sun Belt teams. Kevin Samuel was named to the first-team, and Greg Parham II was voted to the second-team.
• Newcomer Kevin Samuel is one of three current players in the NCAA with 1,000 points and 1,000 rebounds (Armando Bacot, UNC & Jayveous McKinnis, Ole Miss). Samuel is the active leader in NCAA Division I for career rebounds with 1,060 and he holds the career blocks record at TCU (206).
• New Mexico was picked to finish fifth in the Mountain West preseason poll.
• South Alabama has lost four consecutive road openers.
• The Jaguars will host the University of Alabama on November 15 for the first time in program history. South is 1-3 all-time against the Crimson Tide, with their lone win coming in the 1989 NCAA Tournament. In last year's matchup, Alabama won in Tuscaloosa 73-68. 
• This season, South Alabama will play three teams they have never played before — New Mexico, Towson and Hartford.
