NEW ORLEANS – The Sun Belt Conference announced Tuesday that University of South Alabama sophomore Tilly Wilkes is the league's defensive player of the week.

Wilkes is the second Jaguar this season to earn the honor and first to receive the defensive award.

The Preston, England native played a critical role in the Jaguars' 2-1 win at Ole Miss on Sunday. In addition to holding the Rebels to a single goal on 17 shots, she cleared a ball off the line on a corner kick in the first half, and blocked a shot in the final 40 seconds to preserve the victory.

Wilkes played the full 90 minutes Thursday at Mississippi State and recorded a shot on goal.

The Jaguars open conference play Thursday against defending champions Texas State.
