NEW ORLEANS – University of South Alabama right-hander Drake Nightengale was named the Sun Belt Conference Community Coffee Pitcher of the Week on Tuesday, as announced by the league office.
Nightengale struck out a career-high nine batters against two walks in a career-best five shutout innings pitched in last weekend's series opener against Tennessee Tech on Feb. 23 at Stanky Field. He allowed four hits in the game en route to his first career win at South Alabama.
Nightengale is the first Jaguar pitcher to earn league honors since former right-hander Tyler Carr on April 24, 2018. In two starts this season, he is 1-0 with a 0.96 ERA, and has struck out 15 batters and issued six walks in 9 1/3 innings pitched.Â
Coastal Carolina's Parker Chavers was named the Sun Belt Conference Player of the Week.
