Calvi Adds New Director of Operations, Assistant Coach, and Strength Coach Ahead of 2026 Season

MOBILE, Ala. - Head Coach Mark Calvi has announced three new additions to the staff ahead of the program's 2026 season. Tyler Kehoe has been named Director of Baseball Operations, while Mike Wood joins the staff as an Assistant Coach and Recruiting Coordinator. Additionally, Jacob Sherman will oversee the program's Strength and Conditioning efforts.

Tyler Kehoe, Director of Baseball Operations, is replacing Joey Jones who was with the program for six years. Kehoe spent two seasons (2022-2024) playing under Coach Calvi and proved his "dedication to the program and his teammates, just made him an obvious choice," said Calvi. "He's got the right quality, so he's somebody that I know and trust, and couldn't be happier." Kehoe spent his first years of his collegiate career at the University of North Carolina and Northwest Florida State College before arriving in Mobile to play for the Jaguars. The Philadelphia native capped off his playing career as a graduate student at Radford University in the 2025 season.

Mike Wood joins the coaching staff, stepping into the role previously held by Nick Magnifico, who served as Assistant Coach and Recruiting Coordinator for five seasons. Wood had previously spent five seasons at Northwest Florida with a JUCO World Series appearance and earned second place nationally in 2024. More recently, he was a Hitting Coach and Recruiting Coordinator for USC-Upstate in 2024-2025, where a program record in hits were set by the offense and ranked in the top-20 in Division-I baseball in eight offensive categories: Batting average, on-base percentage, slugging percentage, hits, home runs, runs scored, runs batted in, and extra-base hits. The program clinched the Big South Conference Championship lifted by a 19-5 conference record in the 2025 season, with an NCAA Regional appearance at Clemson.

"Mike did a fantastic job at Northwest Florida," Calvi shared, "the players love his work ethic, attention to detail, and his evaluation skills. He wants to be here and help us get back to where we belong, and that's in the postseason."

Jacob Sherman had spent the 2024-2025 year at TCU where he was a Human Performance Assistant, after interning for the Horned Frogs in 2022. He brings a Master of Science degree in Kinesiology and a four-year playing career at East Texas Baptist University on his resume. Sherman joins South Alabama as the programs' Strength and Conditioning Coach, succeeding Chase Barber.

"He came highly recommended from one of, if not the best strength coaches in the country for baseball (referring to Zach Dechant, TCU)," Calvi mentioned, "Sherman is young but he's super mature. He's got advanced knowledge and maturity for his age, and is super organized. He has a plan. He said he wants to be the best strength coach in the country and I said: 'this is your platform.'"
