Brenna McPartlan was voted Sun Belt Conference Women's Soccer Freshman of the Year, and senior
Hannah Godfrey and sophomore
Anita Ágústsdóttir joined her on the all-league teams announced Tuesday.
McPartlan and Godfrey were tabbed to the first team; Ágústsdóttir earned second-team recognition.
A native of Lancashire, England, McPartlan currently leads the team in goals (5), assists (4) and points (14), as well as shots (47) and shots on goal (28). She is tied for fifth in the Sun Belt in goals per game (0.29), tied for seventh in assists per game (0.24), tied for fifth in points per game (0.82) and third in game-winning goals (4).
Of her four game winners, all came in 1-0 victories and three were during league play (Georgia State, Arkansas State, Appalachian State). In conference games only, she is first in assists per game (0.40), second in points per game (1.20) and tied for third in goals per game (0.40).
Godfrey, a Thornton-Cleveleys, England native, has played all 1,572 minutes this season and is second on the team in goals (3), assists (2) and points (8), which are career highs in all three categories. She leads a defense that has compiled six shutouts – five against Sun Belt schools – and posted a goals against average in league games of 0.57, second best in the conference.
The three-time all-Sun Belt selection scored a brace against Chattanooga, and recorded three points, including the game-winning goal, against ULM.
Alongside Godfrey on defense is Ágústsdóttir, who is a first-time all-league pick. The Akranes, Iceland native has played 1,435 minutes, third-most among USA outfield players, and has two assists, both recorded in a 6-1 win over Chattanooga.
The No. 5 seed in the Sun Belt Tournament, South Alabama opens play Wednesday against Appalachian State at 10 a.m. at the Foley Sports Tourism Complex.
