JAG BASEBALL TO OPEN FALL PRACTICE TUESDAY

MOBILE, Ala. – The University of South Alabama baseball team will open fall practice Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. at Stanky Field.

USA will intrasquad every Tuesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday during the fall, and will close fall drills with the Red-Blue Series, with those dates to be announced at a later time.

The Jaguars earned the program's 15th Sun Belt Conference championship last season after finishing 19-8 in conference play. Right-handed pitcher Kevin Hill earned All-American honors from three different organizations – the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association, American Baseball Coaches Association and Collegiate Baseball – and was the SBC Pitcher of the Year while also earning first-team all-region honors from the ABCA/Rawlings and first-team all-SBC.

Center fielder Cole Billingsley became the program's second ABCA/Rawlings Gold Glove Award winner, after second baseman Zach Grichor earned the honor in 2010, and was a first-team all-SBC selection and second-team all-region.

Right-handed relief pitcher Ben Taylor also earned first-team all-SBC honors, and was drafted in the seventh round of the Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft by the Boston Red Sox.

USA set a school single-season record with a .976 fielding percentage, which led the SBC. The Jags finished the season as the SBC leaders in batting average (.285), on-base percentage (.376) and sacrifice flies (28), and the pitching staff finished tops in the league in opposing batting average (.242), ERA (3.22), strikeouts (474) and runs allowed (188).
