MOBILE, Ala. – A pair of University of South Alabama baseball signees recently earned all-state honors from the Alabama Sports Writers Association (ASWA).
Matt Bolger, a 5-8, 170-pound infielder from Bob Jones High School in Madison, Ala., received 6A all-state honorable mention at shortstop by the ASWA. Bolger helped BJHS reach the quarterfinals of the Alabama High School Athletic Association (AHSAA) 6A playoffs this season. As a junior, he hit .358 with two home runs, 32 RBI and 13 stolen bases, and batted .335 with 24 RBI and 10 stolen bases as a sophomore.
Tripp Hobbs, a 6-2, 155-pound outfielder/left-handed pitcher from Chelsea High School in Chelsea, Ala., earned 5A all-state honorable mention as an outfielder. Hobbs went 9-2 with a 2.07 ERA and 58 strikeouts on the mound as a junior in 2012, and went 8-2 with a 2.68 ERA and 54 strikeouts during his sophomore campaign.
Both Bolger and Hobbs will join the program this fall.
