NEW ORLEANS – University of South Alabama baseball senior Brent Tanner and junior Brad Hook were named second-team all-Sun Belt Conference, as announced Tuesday by the conference office.
Tanner was named to the all-conference second team as catcher, while Hook received the honor as a utility player.
This season, Tanner leads South Alabama in batting average (.347), home runs (9), RBI (52), total bases (117) and slugging percentage (.542). The Lucedale, Miss., native is tied for fourth in the Sun Belt in RBI, and tied for fifth in homers. In conference games, he leads the league with 37 RBI, is tied for fourth in home runs (7) and ranks sixth in slugging percentage (.569).
Tanner leads South Alabama with 24 multiple-hit and 15 multiple-RBI games this season, and has hit safely in 40 of 55 games played.
Hook, a first baseman and left-handed pitcher for the Jaguars, is batting .331 with seven homers and 40 RBI this season. The Franklin, Ind., native leads South Alabama with a .451 on-base percentage, and is tied for fourth in the SBC with 37 walks. In league contests, Hook is tied for sixth with six homers. He has hit safely in 10 of his last 11 games, and has recorded multiple hits in seven of those contests.
Hook is tied for the team lead with 43 runs scored, and has recorded 19 multi-hit and nine multi-RBI games this season. He pitched his first career complete game in an 8-3 win over Louisiana-Monroe earlier this season, and made three quality starts on the year. Defensively, Hook has committed just one error in 440 chances.
Tanner and Hook are the first Jaguars to receive all-SBC honors since David Doss and Adam Heisler in 2009.
