GROUND BROKEN ON JAGUAR BASEBALL RING OF HONOR

Construction of the Jaguar Baseball Ring of Honor is underway at Stanky Field.

MOBILE, Ala. – University of South Alabama Athletics has begun construction on the Jaguar Baseball Ring of Honor at Stanky Field.

The Jaguar Baseball Ring of Honor, the plans of which were unveiled at former USA baseball head coach Steve Kittrell’s retirement celebration last season, will be a landscaped rotunda which will contain plaques commemorating all Jaguar baseball head coaches, Sun Belt Conference championship teams, NCAA Regional teams, All-Americans and current and former Jags in the Major Leagues.

It be located behind the third base grandstand at Stanky Field, and was created as a place of distinction to recognize the outstanding coaches, players and teams that have helped create the rich history of South Alabama baseball.

“We’re very happy to show to our donors and supporters that we have begun construction,” South Alabama Director of Athletics Dr. Joel Erdmann said. “We have a soft completion date of this spring, but some of that will be dependent upon weather. We hope we can have a ribbon-cutting during this upcoming season, but we’re not quite ready to nail down a date and time.”

Contributions at various levels will also be recognized on a prominent plaque within the rotunda of the Ring of Honor. To support the Jaguar Baseball Ring of Honor project, contact USA Director of Athletic Development John Goodroe at (251) 461-1365 or assistant director Beth Schiavoni at (251) 414-8046.
