MOBILE, Ala. – The University of South Alabama baseball team continued fall practice with four intrasquad games last week at Stanky Field.

Two of those four games were decided by one run. A few highlights from those intrasquads are below.

The Blue team took a 1-0 lead in the top of the third inning on an RBI groundout off the bat of Harold Collins, which scored Neil Hudson who doubled to lead off the inning.

Gray left-hander Andrew Fonzi allowed just one run on two hits in three innings pitched, and Jarrett Bailey pitched one perfect inning in relief.

Sat., Oct. 8 – Gray 2, Blue 1
Graham Odom delivered a two-run, walk-off single with the bases loaded in the bottom of the sixth inning to lead the Gray team to a 2-1 win over the Blue squad.

Hudson and Brent Mitchell each reached base on a hit by pitch to lead off the inning. Following a sacrifice bunt by Hunt Griffith and intentional walk to Colin Bray to load the bases, Odom singled in the tying and winning runs.

The game was scoreless through the first five innings before the two teams combined for three runs in the final frame.

The Blue team took a 1-0 lead in the top of the sixth inning on an RBI single by Nick Zaharion that plated Logan Kirkland, who singled earlier in the inning.

Anthony Izzio tossed three shutout innings and allowed just one hit while striking out one for the Gray team. Conner Reese allowed only one hit and struck out one in two innings in relief of Izzio.

Phillip Byrd pitched three hitless innings with one strikeout for the Blue team, and Alex Blodgett allowed one hit and struck out one in two relief innings for the Blue.

Odom went 1-for-3 with two RBI to lead the Gray team at the plate. Patterson recorded the Gray team’s only other hit in the contest.

Mitchell followed with an RBI single, and Collins reached on a hit by pitch to force in a third run in the inning. The Gray added an additional run later in the inning to take a 4-0 lead.

Dalken drove in the game’s first run in the top of the first on a groundout to shortstop that allowed Robby Campbell to score, giving the Blue team a 1-0 lead after a half-inning.

But the Gray answered with two runs in the bottom of the second, aided by a wild pitch and RBI single by Wojciechowski, to take a 2-1 lead.

The Blue squad then answered with two runs in the top of the third on an RBI triple by Kirkland and RBI single by Dalken to take a 3-2 lead. The Blue added two additional runs in the top of the fifth inning on an RBI double by Austin Curtis and RBI groundout off the bat of Campbell.
