Jaguars Drop Saturday Contest vs. Old Dominion, 2-0

MOBILE, Ala. - South Alabama (17-10, 4-4 SBC) was shutout in Saturday's defeat to Old Dominion (13-13, 3-5 SBC) by a 2-0 final score at Stanky Field to even the series.

PRIMARY THREADS
  • Wind blowing in from the outfield set the scene for a pitcher-friendly afternoon at Stanky Field, where the first runs of the game were in favor of the Monarchs when they plated two runs in the seventh inning by way of a two out, bases loaded single that snuck through the left side of the infield.
  • Ryland Bozenhard took the hill in his fourth Saturday start and delivered 4.2 scoreless in the no-decision.
  • Max Miller (L, 2-2) took the loss in the contest, allowing two earned runs across 2.0 innings pitched, while righty Ben Tanton (W, 2-0) earned the win.

KEY STATS
  • Mike Young recorded two hits and an outfield assist when he threw out a runner at the plate attempting to score from second base on a single in the first inning.
  • Ryland Bozenhard's final line: 4.2 IP, 3 H, 0 ER, 5 BB, 3 K.
  • Zach Stevens entered for Max Miller in the seventh and went 2.1 scoreless with two strikeouts.

QUOTABLE
HEAD COACH MARK CALVI
"When you give up two runs you should win. Did some good things early with Mike's great throw to the plate, Bozenhard picked a guy off, and Duncan threw a guy out. But we were noncompetitive in the box, and that's what I told them. I give their guys credit, they pitched really well, but we just weren't even close today offensively and that's what's disappointing. Old Dominion has momentum, and Gonzo needs to be the guy that takes it away from them and needs to throw well tomorrow."

ON DECK
Sunday's series finale is scheduled for 12:00 p.m. Daniel Gonzalez (2-2, 3.38 ERA) will make his seventh start while right-hander Nick Sulpizio (1-0, 6.75 ERA) is the probable for the Monarchs.
