Quiet Offense Results in Jaguar Loss to New Orleans in Midweek Contest

MOBILE, Ala. - South Alabama (18-11, 5-4 SBC) dropped its 169th match-up in the all-time series with New Orleans (12-19, 4-11 Southland) at Stanky Field on Tuesday evening by a final score of 2-1.

  • Southpaw Hayden O'Dell (L, 1-2) made his seventh start and delivered 5.0 IP, 5 H, 2 ER, 1 BB, K in his second loss of the season.
  • Jake Middleton was first out of the Jaguar bullpen and went 1.2 innings of hitless ball with two strikeouts. Middleton exited in the seventh for right-hander Tyler Smith who got out of the inning with two away.
  • Jacob Haley made his second appearance and took over in the eighth and delivered a scoreless frame with a pair of punchouts, before Brian Garmon II took over in the ninth and posted a zero with a strikeout.

QUOTABLE
HEAD COACH MARK CALVI
"I told the guys complacency is the enemy of winning. We can't let our guard down and we can't be complacent. It's a good group and they've gone hard, and today was an anomaly, but it still doesn't take the sting out of it. Give New Orleans credit, they pitched well and so did we. But we left guys on base, we popped up, and it was soft offensively. We didn't push them at all and didn't force them to have to make pitches. We kept getting ourselves out over and over. So again, complacency gets this team beat, and we got beat today."

ON DECK
The Jaguars will begin a seven-game road stretch opening at No. 14 Coastal Carolina. Both Thursday night's series opener and Friday's contest are scheduled for 5:00 p.m. (CT), while Saturday's series finale is slated for a 10:00 a.m. first pitch. (CT).
