QUEBEC CITY, Canada – The University of South Alabama women's basketball team fell to Laval 66-48 in game two of the Jaguars' Canada trip.
"I'm disappointed with the final outcome," head coach Terry Fowler said. "However, there were some bright spots. I thought Shay Kines picked up right where she left off on Thursday night. Candice Williams and freshman Antoinette Lewis also played well."
Kines, a rising sophomore, contributed a team-leading 12 points and brought down four rebounds, while junior Erin Autio scored nine points.
Williams and senior center Chyna Ellis tied for the team-lead in rebounds as they pulled down five each for South. Junior post player India Hall and Lewis also brought down four boards each.
"Laval has an excellent program and would fit in with any mid major conference. They shot the ball extremely well," Fowler commented on Laval's play.
South only trailed by two at the end of the first quarter, but Laval outscored the Jags by 11 in the second to stretch its lead out to 36-23 at the end of the first half.
The Jags could not overcome Laval's first half lead, but South hung close over the final two periods as USA was only outscored by five in the second half.
After the game, USA took a tour of Quebec City and will spend Sunday (Aug. 6) at La Ronde Amusement Park in Montreal.
The Jaguars will be back in action tomorrow as they take on Bishop at 6 p.m. (CDT) in the final game of the team's Canada trip.
