YOUNGSVILLE, La. – South Alabama men's tennis showed a solid performance at the Sugarcane Classic on Sept. 18-20, with Harold van Raemdonck and Victor Frumholz going undefeated in singles.

DAY ONE:
The Jags split the singles draw with Tulane after dropping a doubles point to West Florida. Victor Frumholz won in two sets on court three, Harold van Raemdonck earned a super tiebreaker victory and Jonathan Kneer won by a Green Wave forfeit.

• Coach Brochu: "What was really good is to see how the guys really rallied back. Some guys won the second set and won the super tiebreaker. Some guys won a second set, but then lost a close tiebreaker. It was very good to see that, even though we were losing, guys rallied back, fought hard and made it a really good battle."

DAY TWO:
South Alabama had a strong showing in the first doubles round of the day, with Yigin/Caby and Frumholz/Bouyacoub defeating their Tulane opponents 6-2 and 6-1, respectively. The Jags would split the singles draw with Louisiana, van Raemdonck winning in straight sets and Frumholz and Adam Bouyacoub powering through super tiebreakers.

• Coach Brochu: "Going into Saturday, we talked about having a stronger start, and that's exactly what happened. It was great to see how energetic and excited the guys were. It was high energy and big-hitting."

DAY THREE:
After the program's doubles run with Louisiana was cut short, South Alabama dominated the singles draw against West Florida, dropping only one court. Every victorious Jaguar won in straight sets: Harold van Raemdonck (6-3, 6-2), Jules Caby (6-2, 6-3), Victor Frumholz (6-4, 6-3), Adam Bouyacoub (6-4, 6-1) and Derek Yigin (6-0, 6-3).

• Coach Brochu: "Our doubles this morning against Louisiana did not work at all. We were not connecting well. So, we moved into singles, and we had to regroup. We had a good meeting before singles, and we struck from start to finish. We won five very strong singles, which was amazing to see today."

COACH'S CORNER:
Nick Brochu:

• "The guys finished the tournament, and it's not necessarily how you start the race, but how you finish it, and we definitely finished it the right way. I am very happy with the way that some of those guys are playing. Harold and Victor finished the weekend undefeated. I mean, that is good stuff. Now, we have to get ready for two weeks from now when we have our very big tournament in Montgomery, with very high-level teams. I think this is a good start. Now we will go back to Mobile and touch on some of the stuff that we missed this weekend. Overall, I am very satisfied with the way we competed."

UP NEXT:
South Alabama will compete in the Blue Grey National Tennis Classic on Oct. 2-4 in Montgomery, Ala.
