STATESBORO, Ga. - South Alabama (19-14, 6-6 SBC) will continue its seven-game road stretch with a weekend series at Georgia Southern (11-21, 4-8 SBC) opening on Friday night at 5:30 p.m. (CT).
The series continues on Saturday with first pitch at 1:00 p.m., while Saturday's series finale is slated for 12:00 p.m. (CT).
SERIES HISTORY
South Alabama and Georgia Southern have a 39-game history where the Jaguars lead the all-time series 22-17 dating back to 1987. The Jaguars last visited Statesboro in the 2023 season when the Eagles swept the series. The most recent meeting between the two squads came in 2025 in Mobile, resulting in the Jaguars taking two of three games in the series. Georgia Southern has an 8-7 edge in games played in Statesboro since 2006 and hold a 7-3 lead in the previous 10 match-ups in the all-time series.
SCOUTING THE EAGLES
After a rough 0-8 start to the 2026 campaign, Georgia Southern has since found its footing. Highlighted by two non-conference series victories over Jaguar similar opponent USC-Upstate and Tennessee Tech, the Eagles claimed a midweek victory over then-No. 11 Clemson to put the program in position for conference play. Georgia Southern was swept by JMU and dropped two of three to Marshall to open SBC play before a big series victory over Troy. Avoiding a sweep against Texas State in the series finale leads to the series vs. South Alabama. The Eagles have not played in a full week after the Friday double header at Texas State concluded the series and were not slated for a midweek game prior to the series with the Jags. The Eagles follow the series with a midweek contest at No. 3 Georgia Tech before a weekend set at Old Dominion.

PRIMARY THREADS
- At No. 14 Coastal, the Jags snapped the Chants' 32-game Sun Belt Conference win streak in game two and evened the series in doing so. Coastal had not dropped an SBC game at home since April 6, 2025. A hard-fought, back-and-forth rubber match on Saturday resulted in a Coastal walk-off win in the bottom of the ninth, 8-7 final. A midweek stop at Alabama State resulted in South's fourth midweek loss this season in nine games heading into Georgia Southern.
- Friday - Mitchell Heer - The familiar face has been a tone setter as the Friday face thus far for the Jaguars. It is no mistake the Jaguars are 8-0 to start the season on Friday nights when #13 is on the hill. Heer has a team-leading three Quality Starts in eight appearances, alongside a 4-1 record (2nd most wins in SBC) with a 4.85 ERA.
- Saturday - Ryland Bozenhard - Heading into his sixth Saturday start for the Jags -Â The right-hander started the season with two appearances out of the bullpen for a 6.75 ERA in 6.2 innings, but has since transitioned to a starter role highlighted by back to back 5.2 inning starts vs. LA Tech and Louisiana and allowed only four earned combined. In a clutch outing at No. 14 Coastal went 3.2 scoreless to set up the Jags for a 15-2 victory.
- Sunday - Daniel Gonzalez - The former ULM Friday night arm has been the Sunday regular for the Jags. Gonzo leads the Jaguar pitching staff in strikeouts (47), and recorded a career-high 9 strikeouts vs. West Georgia. Threw the first Jaguar seven-inning CG since 2023 against ODU in rubber match victory for his second Quality Start and tied his career high in K's (9). He's been a serious competitor with a 3.20 ERA (leads starters) and six of eight starts have been 5.0+ IP.
- Reliever Jaxon Shineflew ranks 7th in the country and 1st in the Sun Belt in the WHIP category (0.79), after dealing 5.1 innings at No. 14 Coastal to earn his fourth win of the year with a perfect 4-0 record.
