Mobile, Ala. – South Alabama baseball was ranked the 97th-best program in the nation by D1Baseball on Monday.

In the 2026 edition of D1Baseball's biennial Top 100 Programs countdown, South Alabama has appeared in the top 100 every time the exercise has been conducted since 2015. The Jaguars' highest ranking was 50th in 2017.

D1Baseball noted that despite falling short of an at-large bid, the Jaguars finished 11th in the Sun Belt from 2023 to 2025 and are projected to finish in the top half of the conference moving forward. This projection is attributed to quality facilities such as Stanky Field, the Luis Gonzalez Hitting Facility, and the David Freese Weight Room; a lengthy history that includes four regional appearances from 2013-2021; and coaching consistency, with Mark Calvi entering his 16th season as head coach.

Heading into the 2027 season, South Alabama returns 17 players from its 2026 squad, including two All-Sun Belt second-team members, Brennon Wright and Stewart Puckett. Notable transfers include outfielder Riley Luft from Appalachian State, who batted .310 in 52 games last season.

South Alabama baseball continues its fall slate this weekend with intrasquad play on Thursday, Oct. 1, at 4 p.m.
