MONTGOMERY, Ala. - South Alabama (19-13, 6-6 SBC) will continue its road stretch with a midweek contest at Alabama State (14-16, 5-7 SWAC) on Wednesday night at 6:00 p.m. (CT).


SERIES HISTORY
South Alabama has dominated the all-time series with Alabama State with a 24-6 advantage in 31 games in its history. South boasted a win streak over the Hornets from the 2016 NCAA Regional game in Tallahassee in June 2016 to April 2022, winning seven straight in that span. The two programs have played each other every year except 2020 and 2021 since 2013. The Jags have never dropped the two-game season series and have swept it five times. The two squads split the season's series in 2025, where the Hornets took the most recent match-up in Montgomery by a 6-5 final score. Following the contest, Alabama State is scheduled to visit Stanky Field later this season on May 5.


SCOUTING THE HORNETS
Alabama State is coming off a SWAC series victory over Arkansas - Pine Bluff after victories on Thursday and Friday, but dropped the series finale by a 1-26 final score. Prior to the series, the Hornet's season thus far is highlighted by sweeping the Andre Dawson Classic with victories over Florida A&M, Grambling State, and Texas Southern, and a SWAC series victory over Southern. The Hornets bring a 1-2 victory vs. Sun Belt teams into the midweek with South, dropping two games to Troy and a win over Georgia State. Similar opponents on both the Jaguars season schedule and the Hornets are Alabama and UAB, where the Jags beat both teams and the Hornets have dropped two to Alabama and were also beat by the Blazers. Alabama State will play a weekend series at Alabama A&M after facing the Jags.

PRIMARY THREADS

• At No. 14 Coastal, the Jags snapped the Chants' 32-game Sun Belt Conference win streak in game two and evened the series in doing so. Coastal had not dropped an SBC game at home since April 6, 2025. A hard-fought, back-and-forth rubber match on Saturday resulted in a Coastal walk-off win in the bottom of the ninth, 8-7 final.
• Stewart Puckett went 6-12 in the weekend set at No. 14 Coastal with a 4-5 game two including a homer and 4 RBI. The third baseman enters ASU on a seven game hit streak where he's 11-27 at the dish hitting .407 in that span.
• First baseman Blake Guerin is tied for the Sun Belt lead in homers after he crushed his 11th of the season in the game two victory at No. 14 Coastal, and collected his team-leading 35th RBI.
• As of 4/7 - Brennon Wright has currently ranked 5th in the SBC in batting average (.373), 5th in hits (44), and 3rd in on-base percentage (.490). Ranked 19th nationally among Division I 2nd basemen and 6th among Mid Majors (D1Baseball).
• O'Dell will make his eighth start at Alabama State after taking his second loss vs. UNO a week ago, allowing 2 ER across 5.0 IP.
• Pitchers Daniel Gonzalez (9) Hayden O'Dell (8) and Mitchell Heer (11) have all set career-highs in the strikeout column this season.
