South Alabama Travels to New Orleans in Midweek with the Privateers

NEW ORLEANS, La. - South Alabama (26-18, 11-10 SBC) will travel to New Orleans (18-28, 8-16 SLC) to take on the Privateers and complete the home-away season series on Wednesday night at 6:30 p.m. (CT).

SERIES HISTORY
The New Orleans Privateers are the most common opponent in program history, with 169 games between the two programs. While South Alabama leads the all-time series 100-69, UNO holds a five-game winning streak over the Jaguars dating back to the 2023 season. The Privateers took the contest held at Stanky Field earlier this season, but the Jaguars look to split the home-away season series on Wednesday night. 77 times the squads have met on the diamond in New Orleans, while the Jags have a slight advantage of 39-38.

SCOUTING THE PRIVATEERS
The Privateers have won just one weekend set this season and bring in a 2-6 record versus Sun Belt teams thus far. UNO is coming off a weekend series against Lamar where it dropped the Saturday and Sunday contests after winning the series opener. The Privateers will travel to Thibodaux to take on Nicholls State in its second-to-last regular season series.

PRIMARY THREADS
  • A 2-2 week 11 opened with a midweek victory over Lamar, before dropping Friday and Saturday games to No. 18 Southern Miss. South Alabama salvaged the series with a Sunday victory fueled by Stewart Puckett's first career multi-HR game and a Daniel Gonzalez Quality Start.
  • Situational and timely hitting has been effective, where we've seen 16 sacrifice fly's and 37 sac bunts (3rd in SBC) as a team. Brennon Wright leads the sticks in hits (61) and batting average (.361), and Blake Guerin crushed a homer on Saturday against Southern Miss for his Sun Belt-best 14th of the season.
  • Hayden O'Dell made his fifth midweek start when Alabama came to town Tuesday night. The senior went 5.0 innings with 7 K's for the no decision. At UAB, he tallied a career high 8 K's in a season-high 5.2 innings pitched (March 3). O'Dell made his ninth start of the season, all in midweeks, against Lamar on Wednesday (Apr. 22) for his second win of the season.
