Preview: Sun Belt Conference Championship

TOURNAMENT INFORMATION
Event (host):
Sun Belt Conference Championship (Sun Belt Conference)
Course: Lakewood Golf Club (Point Clear, Ala.)
Dates: April 20-23 (Monday – Thursday)

TOURNAMENT PREVIEW
•    The championship event is set to get underway Monday morning at 8 a.m. with split team times on holes No. 1 and No. 10 on the par 72, 6,106-yard course.
•    The field will return Tuesday and Wednesday for two more 18-hole rounds beginning each day at 8 a.m.
•    Following the conclusion of the first three rounds, the top four teams will advance to match play on Thursday
•    The semifinals will be contested in the morning on the last day of the tournament, with the winners meeting in the afternoon to claim the league's automatic berth to an NCAA Regional
•    Live scoring links for each round will be available on USAJaguars.com

THE FIELD
•    Joining South Alabama in the 13-team field are Appalachian State, Arkansas State, Coastal Carolina, Georgia State, Georgia Southern, James Madison, Marshall, Old Dominion, Southern Miss, Texas State, Troy and ULM. 

THE LINEUP
•    The Jaguar lineup will feature (1) Anna Behnsen; (2) Daniela Palmeros; (3) Lilian Buehle; (4) Mercedes Aldana; (5) Katelyn Foster
•    South Alabama enters the postseason ranked No. 94 nationally, and the third-highest among Sun Belt schools – Texas State (No. 54), ULM (No. 69)
•    The Jaguars hold a 66-52 overall record on the season, and will be in search of their first league title since 2019
•    South holds a combined 10-2 record against Sun Belt opponents that it has faced during the regular season: Coastal Carolina (2-0), Georgia Southern (1-0), James Madison (2-1), Old Dominion (3-1), Southern Miss (2-0)
•    Behnsen leads the club in strokes per round (73.22) and birdies (73), while Palmeros is averaging 74.90 strokes per round and is second with 52 birdies
•    Behnsen also has four Top 10 finishes this season and both Behnsen and Palmeros have recorded three sub-70 rounds
•    Along with Behnsen, Palmeros also holds a tournament victory this spring, taking home medalist honors at the Fifth Annual Evie Odom Invitational hosted by Old Dominion during the fall
