POINT CLEAR Ala. | South Alabama saw its postseason run come to a close, falling 3-0 to Texas State in the semifinals of Match Play Thursday morning at the Sun Belt Conference Championship at the Lakewood Golf Club on the Dogwood Course.
The Bobcats picked up a pair of wins to take the early lead as Briana LeMaire (Texas State) defeated
Daniela Palmeros (South Alabama), 5&4 at No. 1, and Fia Lindblom (Texas State) defeated
Katelyn Foster (South Alabama), 6&5 at No. 3. Foster did record an eagle on the par-4, 365-yard 18th hole.
Texas State later clinched the match victory with a win at No. 3 when Grace Quintanilla captured a 2&1 win at No. 3 over
Anna Behnsen. Behnsen led through the first eight holes, but Quintanilla tied the match up with a birdie on the 18. She then took the lead for good with another birdie on hole 1. Behnsen birdied the par-5, 477-yard fourth, but that was as close as she was able to get as Quintanilla birdied No. 7 three holes later to go two up in the match. Both players pared the eighth hole to seal the match for the Bobcats.
In her match at the No. 5 spot,
Mercedes Aldana recorded three birdies and an eagle on the par 5, 483-yard No. 1 to highlight her round. Aldana and Texas State's Yvonne Chamness were tied in their match when the Bobcats clinched, while Mana Hersperger (Texas State) was 2UP on
