SEMMES, Ala. - South Alabama men's golf landed in tenth place after concluding Tuesday's final round at the Hal Williams Collegiate at Magnolia Grove Golf Club, recording a team score of 840 (E).
Tournament play began at 8:00 a.m. on Monday morning, when the 14-team field tee'd it up in a shotgun start and recorded 36-holes of play on day one. The Jaguars sat in ninth place on the leaderboard after Monday's two rounds and recorded a team score of 2-over par in the first round and 6-under par in round two.
No. 13 Illinois ran away with the tournament victory by a 15-stroke lead and ended with a team score of 31-under par (809). Jaguar senior Hugo Thyr started slow by his standards, carding a 2-over 74 in round one, but snapped into gear in rounds two and three and carded season-low 65 (-5) and 66 (-4) to close out the tournament, resulting in a tie for sixth individually.

QUOTED
Head Coach Ben Hannan
"It's good to get the spring going and the first event done. There were some individual positive signs this week along with some rust from the break. Hugo played wonderful golf the last 36 holes shooting 65 and 66 for another solid event finishing top six. Sophomore Filip Svendsen had a bogey Free two under 68 in the middle round.Â
As a team, we opened the tournament, a little dry, but bounced back nicely in the second round. Today, every time we got a little momentum going, there was a mistake that stalled the run. Overall, we simply made too many mistakes to play well as a team this week. We will learn from this and look forward to competing again in a few weeks."
