2025-26 Jaguars Etch Six Program Records

MOBILE, Ala. - Jaguar men's golf reached new heights during the 2025-26 campaign, rewriting the program record book in six categories across 10 tournaments and 29 rounds. South established three team and three individual program records while producing one of the most successful seasons in Jaguar history.

South Alabama shattered its previous season-long team stroke average program record of 289.03 by over five strokes, with an average this season of 283.69, after the 2025-26 season marked the first season with six top-5 finishes since 2013-14.

Two low tournament totals were broken in the history books. The Jaguars broke the low tournament total at a par-72 course at the Trinity Forest Invitational in Dallas, Texas, hosted by SMU, with a team score of 833 (-31), landing a third place finish just one stroke back of a two-way tie for victory at 32-under par (Oct. 6-7, 2025).

Secondly, South Alabama defended its 2025 home title at the Mobile Bay Intercollegiate and fired its low tournament total at a par-71 course of 826 (-26) and secured its second consecutive crown at the tournament (March 30-31, 2026).

The team was led by senior and fourth year Jaguar Hugo Thyr, who set three individual program records this season and holds four overall at South Alabama. For the first time in program history, a Jaguar golfer individual stroke average landed in the 60's. Hugo Thyr's individual stroke average this season was 69.83 across 29 rounds, beating Gareth Mayben's previous program record (71.33, 2003-04) by nearly two strokes.

Thyr was one of three golfers in the Sun Belt Conference to bring in a stroke average in the 60's into the Sun Belt Conference Championship in 2026. Over the course of the 2026 season, Hugo collected a tournament victory (Mobile Bay Intercollegiate, 14-under), carded five top-five individual tournament finishes and eight top-20 finishes across 10 total tournaments.

Thyr also set the career individual stroke average program record across his four years at South Alabama (71.59, 2022-26), and won the SBC Championship twice. He is one of two Sun Belt golfers in history to do so (Alan Schulte, ODU, 1984-85). The senior carded an unbelievable 20/29 rounds under-par, and 15 of 29 in the 60's to finalize his historic season. The South Alabama graduate is the only Jaguar in program history to make four regional appearances after his T-28 finish at the NCAA Athens Regional.

Thyr made his first regional appearance as a freshman where he placed T-23 at the 2023 NCAA Auburn Regional. His sophomore appearance marked a T-58 finish at the 2024 NCAA Baton Rouge Regional, while his previous appearance as a junior landed T-35 at the 2025 NCAA Tallahassee Regional.
