NEW ORLEANS | After picking up her first career win, South Alabama women's golfer Anna Behnsen was named the Sun Belt Conference Women's Golfer of the Week on Thursday as announced by the league office.

The honor marks the fourth time a golfer has earned the league's weekly honor under head coach Marcelo Huarte, joining Katharina Schroll (twice) and Mercedes Aldana, who received the accolade last season. Behnsen is the eighth women's golfer in program history to earn the conference's weekly honor and the 13th overall selection. Three other players have also been named the SBC Golfer of the Month.

Playing a major championship-level golf course, Behnsen fired a career-low four-under par 209 (72-68-69) at the Inverness Intercollegiate hosted by Toledo at the Inverness Club to capture her first tournament victory. Behnsen was the lone player in the 65-player field to finish under par.

Behnsen bested her previous three-round low by seven strokes (216, Hurricane Invitational (10/28-10/29/24). Behnsen tied for first on par 3 scoring (2.78) and led the field on par-4 scoring as she was the lone player average under par at 3.90.

The Vienna, Austria, native was 2-under on the front nine in the opening round after carding four of her five birdies in the round there, and finished the second round with a career-low 68, as she had three birdies and did not go over par in the round. With her final round 69, Behnsen now has five career rounds under 70. Behnsen was also two-under par on the back nine in Tuesday's final round.

Behnsen recorded 12 birdies at the Inverness Intercollegiate, and continues to lead the club in birdies through the first two tournaments as she has 19 this fall. She is averaging 71.83 strokes per round this season.

South Alabama will continue its fall campaign in three weeks when it competes at the Mercedes-Benz Collegiate Championship (Oct. 5-7) hosted by Tennessee at Cherokee Country Club.
