MOBILE, Ala. - South Alabama (17-24) will play Nicholls (15-28) Wednesday night at 6:30 p.m.
South Alabama returns to Stanky Field after traveling to Huntington, W.V., where Marshall won the series with a sweep on the Saturday doubleheader and Sunday.
SERIES HISTORY
The Jaguars and Colonels have met 53 times since their first meeting in 1976. The first 11 meetings between the two teams all came in Mobile, where South won seven of the matchups. over the last 10 years, Nicholls and South have played just five times, with Nicholls winning one in 2016 in Biloxi, and then the Jags winning the last four, with three games in Mobile, and one in Thibodaux. Last season, USA won in walkoff fashion, 11-10 in 10 innings.
SCOUTING THE COLONELS
Nicholls has won series against Northern Illinois, Little Rock, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, Incarnate Word, and Stephen F. Austin. Nicholls has played common opponents Louisiana Tech (2 games), Southern Miss, and Louisiana, with a 1-3 record against them, the lone win against Southern Miss in Biloxi. The Colonels currently sit ninth in conference standings and are only 1-18 on the road, with a loss at Tulane on Tuesday night on the way to Mobile.
