MOBILE, Ala. - South Alabama looks to continue the weekend's success as they travel to the Crescent City for the 169th all-time matchup against the University of New Orleans.
SERIES HISTORY
South Alabama and UNO continue the most storied rivalry in both programs' history,
with 168 total contests between the two. South Alabama holds the overall series
record 100-68, but UNO has a four game winning streak, dating back to the 2023
season. The Jags' last win over the Privateers came in March of 2023 in a 10-7 win in
Mobile. Earlier this season, USA hosted New Orleans on Feb. 25, where the Privateers run-ruled the Jaguars 13-2.
SCOUTING THE PRIVATEERS
On an eight game win streak, New Orleans is coming off back-to-back sweeps over UNC-Asheville, and Houston Christian. Their win streak started two weeks ago with a midweek win over Southern, and another win over Tulane last Tuesday. 7-1 in midweek games, their only loss is at #2 LSU.Â

Rett Johnson was voted as the Sun Belt Conference Player of the Week for week 10. After starting the week 7-for-7 at the plate over his first two games, the Jaguars' sophomore outfielder hit .625 (10-for-16), as South Alabama picked up its second Sun Belt series victory over the past three weekends. The Blue Springs, Miss., native registered a double, a home run, four runs scored and five RBI on the week. His first home run of the season tied the rubber game in the Texas State series, before the Jaguars erupted for eight runs over the subsequent four frames in a 10-2 series-clinching win.Â
TWO-STEP OVER TXST
A run-rule victory over Texas State Thursday night was fueled by a 3-RBI home run from JOhn Smith III to put the game out of reach for the Jags. Smith III again rocked a two-run home run in the eighth to give South their first walk-off run-rule home run since David Doss' over Memphis in 2009.
