SERIES HISTORY
The Dolphins and Jaguars have matched up 91 times over the last 53 years, with the first matchup taking place April 29, 1972 in a 11-5 game in favor of JU. The overall record leans in favor of South Alabama, with a 54-37 record. The 91 games between the two teams makes the Dolphins the ninth most-played opponent in Jaguar history.
South Alabama and Jacksonville hold significant history together, with the two teams being part of the six founding members of the Sun Belt Conference in 1976. The Dolphins remained in the SBC until 1998, when they accepted an invitation to join the ASUN conference, at the time named the Trans America Athletic Conference. Since splitting off as conference mates, USA and JU have met sporadically, just five times since 1998. South is 1-4 in that time, with Jacksonville entering the series with a 4 game win streak over the Jaguars, coming by way of two wins in 2000, a win in 2005, and a win in 2007.
Head Coach
Mark Calvi has never faced the Dolphins while leading South.
