South Alabama is coming off a weekend in Mississippi in which it split a pair of matches against Georgia Southern and Tulane. The Jags fell to the Eagles 2-5 before defeating Tulane 4-3 to move to 2-1 overall on the season.

The Jaguars got a huge lift from senior Javier Montoya who beat a pair of ranked opponents over the weekend. In South's first match, Montoya knocked off the No. 84 player in the nation in Georgia State's Dimitric Paliouras. Montoya got off to a good start by winning the first set 6-4 before dropping the second set 1-6. In a super tiebreak in the third set, Montoya took care of business by winning 10-8 for a 6-4, 1-6, 10-8 victory. The next day with the Jags facing Tulane, Montoya went up against Luka Petrovic who was the No. 101 ranked singles player in the nation. Montoya made quick work of him in 6-2, 6-1 fashion to lead the Jaguars to a 4-3 victory.

South holds a 20-1 record all time against Samford and a 30-11 record against UAB. The Jags were dominant against both teams in 2024, defeating Samford 6-1 and UAB 7-0.
