TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Braden Hannig made a run to the singles quarterfinals to highlight a strong showing for South Alabama Men's Tennis at the ITA Regionals over the weekend.
Overall, the Jaguars placed four singles players in the main draw of the weekend's tournament. Hannig advanced all the way to the quarterfinals by defeating opponents from Ole Miss, Troy and North Alabama while
Juan Accossatto took down his opponent from Louisiana to advance to the round of 32. Jules Caby and
Harold van Raemdonck also made it to the round of 64 on the weekend, but did not advance in the main draw.
"Regionals was definitely a good weekend for us," said head coach Nick Brochu. Highlights from qualifiers was Juan and Jules taking care of business by knocking out their two matches on the first day. That gave us four guys in the main draw, which is great representation for South Alabama. This was a really tough tournament. It's all the best teams from the states of Mississippi, Louisiana and Alabama, so all the big dogs are there. The Jags represented very well. The highlight was definitely Braden. Number one, it's so nice to have him back in action after his back injury. He exceeded expectations by winning his first-three matches. The first was against a seeded opponent. He had to dig extremely deep and showed a lot of character by pushing his body to the limit. He was the only non-Power 4 player to make the quarterfinals. It was a great feeling to be the last one standing and representing the mid-majors. He's got a great chance to qualify for sectionals. I'm just so proud of him."
