MOBILE, Ala. | Gabby Stagner picked up her first preseason accolade on Thursday as she was selected to D1 Softball's Top 15 First Baseman List entering the 2025 season.

The Mobile, Ala., native was one of 15 players from around the country at the position to be selected to the list. Last season, Stagner was ranked by both D1 Softball and Softball America as one of the top players at the position, climbing as high as No. 2 on each at one point.

Stagner enters her final season as a Jaguar ranked among the program's career leaders in slugging percentage (third, .569), home runs (fifth, 26), doubles (t-seventh, 33), extra-base hits (t-seventh, 62) and RBI (10th, 104).

The senior ranked second on the club with a .307 batting average in 2024 and led the team with 15 home runs and 46 RBI and a .706 slugging percentage. Of her 50 hits – second-most on the roster – over half (32) went for extra bases as she had a team-best 14 doubles and three triples to go along with the 15 home runs. The 15 home runs also set a new single-season mark in the category and the 46 RBI were seventh most in a season. Her .706 slugging percentage was the second-highest in a season at South Alabama. The 14 doubles were the second-most by a junior in program history and the 46 RBI were a new class best. 

Stagner ranked among the Sun Belt leaders in slugging percentage (sixth), RBI (eighth), doubles (t-fifth), triples (t-third) and home runs (t-second). She recorded 10 multi-hit and a team-high 12 multi-RBI games after beginning the season with a 13-game hit streak – which included seven multi-hit outings – and an 18-game reached base safely streak. Stagner ended the season with her second 18-game reached base safely streak – her second such streak this spring – and in 48 games of her 53 contests.

South Alabama will open up the 2025 season next month when it hosts the South Alabama Invitational (Feb. 6-9). The Jags will face in-state foe UAB at 5 p.m. on the opening day of the tournament.
